Photos may have been accidentally leaked last month, but now the truth can properly be revealed on the brand new Carbon Yeti SB95c. Based upon the highly successful 5″ travel 29er, the SB95c simply replaces the metal tubes with beautifully organic flowing carbon fiber that helps to shed some of the excess heft that the alloy SB95 was guilty of carrying. The result is a claimed frame weight of around 2.6kg (w/shock) that puts the new 29er into a much more competitive weight range that could see it as an ideal option for anything from Marathons and 6 Hour races through to Gravity-Enduro events. However, given the alloy SB95 is such a trail ripper, we’re betting that the carbon model is simply going to become many riders “one bike”.

It still retains the excellent Switch Suspension design that utilises an eccentric cam for the main pivot to control the axle path and linkage ratio. Features like the tapered headtube, 142x12mm rear thru-axle and removable ISCG spline are also carried over from the alloy model, as well as the oversized pivot pins and Enduro Max sealed bearings.

Not content with just releasing one model at Sea Otter, Yeti Cycles have given us a double-whammy with the addition of the brand new ARC-C to the 2014 Yeti range. Like the rest of the lineup, the ‘C’ refers to Carbon – a material that up until now was yet to see full adoption from the hardtail models. The ARC-C makes full use of the wunder-material in order to provide a blisteringly fast race bike that finally answers the needs of competitive XC & Marathon riders. However, one of the coolest features of the new model is the use of both 650B and 29er wheels – the bigger frame sizes get bigger wheels, and the smaller sizes get the smaller wheels. Pretty cool huh! The beauty of taking wheel size into account with frame size means that little compromise has to be made with geometry – often 29er bikes bottom out at a Medium size, though the new ARC-C goes all the way down to XS!

We’re excited about the new ARC-C for a number of reasons, though without doubt the use of two different wheel sizes across frame sizing is the most impressive innovation from Yeti. Why should folks shorter than 5’9″ miss out on a lightweight race hardtail? The sub 1.2kg frame weight isn’t genre-defying, but given Yeti’s penchant for solid and fun-handling bikes, that weight is very good. Speaking of fun, the ARC-C gets a 69-70 degree head tube angle, short chainstays for manoeuvrability and a generous top-tube length for use with a shorter stem and wider bars. While you’ll likely see a lot of these lining up at Enduros and Marathon race start lines, there’ll also be an equal number of them blasting trail heads around the country.
