Round one of Chocolate Foot’s Singletrack Mind enduro series was washed out. Round two happened in sunshine, but only moments after riders left the Nowra event centre the sky opened up and the access road turned into a river. Round three was simply a bit chilly (it was June in Canberra after all). As round four approached, so did more grey skies, which tipped down the day and night before the event. Riders and event organisers bit their nails and searched their smart phones for a weather site they liked…

Fortunately for everyone, race day was one of those days where the puddles around the event centre were as wet as it got.  The Wingello trails in the Southern Highlands gave riders the chance to work on their slide skills as they wove around the many corners in the first few laps. The trails coped well with the traffic, drying out to reach a state of tacky perfection as the day wore on. Between laps, the long lines normally associated with the coffee cart migrated to the Muc Off stand. Muc Off Man, Gary Theiss, worked hard all day to make bikes shine again so riders could head back out on the trails with gears and grins intact.

On the racing front, series points and friendly rivalries are providing some good, honest competition across all categories. With three more races to go the category wins could still be anyone’s, but more importantly, three more fun days of singletrack are up for grabs too.  Fingers crossed that sunny days become the norm and the Muc Off Man can bust out a lap or two as well!
