BIKE BULLER MTB FESTIVAL TO HIT THE SLOPES AGAIN IN 2011

Thursday, November 18th, 2010

Rapid Ascent and Mt Buller have confirmed that the Bike Buller MTB Festival is back again in 2011 and encourage anyone who is into mountain biking, fresh air, flowing trails and a fun race environment to ensure they are part of this revolutionary event on March 5th and 6th 2011. The Bike Buller MTB Festival is a two-day mountain bike stage race held on the purpose-built mountain bike trails in and around the magical alpine landscape of Mt Buller.

Groomed alpine trails and lift access make for a perfect weekend's racing

With four different races held over the two days, competitors can choose to compete in the premier category and do all races or choose the ones that suit them, making the event suitable to newcomers as well as elite riders. The range of different events conducted over the weekend also provides plenty of variety and is part of the reason why the weekend has proved so popular over the last two years.

Bike Buller has enjoyed a steady increase in competitor numbers since its launch in 2009.The inaugural event, attracted 252 competitors, whilst the 2010 event saw a significant increase with 452 riders taking part. With the growing enthusiasm and familiarity the event now attracts it is likely that the 2011 event will attract over 600 riders to the mountain for a fun weekend on their bikes.

Murray Spink leading the Super D

The weekend will see riders with a range of abilities compete in events including:

-        25km XC race along the purpose built trails surrounding the village and neighbouring Corn Hill;

-        NEW 4hr Brakeburner Enduro: a four-hour multi-lap enduro down a flowing 6km XC-downhill course where riders catch the chair lift up and do as many laps as you can until directed down the 1,100m Mt Buller Super-D Descent to the very bottom at the end of their time;

-        Mt Buller Super-D Descent: a 12km race with a 1,100m vertical descent from top of Baldy to Mirimbah at the to bottom; and

-        50km XC race: over Mt Stirling and back again on the new ‘Stonefly’ single track built by Glen Jacobs and the World Trail crew.

Buller's fantastic trails

The weekend event will also include a range of event extras, including live music, mid-event dinner and party on Saturday night, kids’ race and a relaxed attitude that has seen riders with a range of abilities take part and still enjoy themselves.

A fun mountain bike weekend for everyone where racers can race, recreational riders can enjoy the trails and the scenery, and non riders have plenty of things to do, this is an accessible weekend for everyone.

A warmer, dryer Capital Punishment?

Thursday, November 11th, 2010

Mud, mud and more mud...

The new date for Capital Punishment MTB Enduro, Australia’s biggest mountain bike endurance event is planned for Saturday, March 19 2011 in Canberra. The 2010 event attracted 2,000 entrants who got exactly what the event name suggested:  punishment! Indeed the weather conditions in the days leading to the event turned the course into a mud bog for the riders! The participants’ bikes suffered but the bike stores loved it!

Jason should've packed flippers for this race, but hopefully the weather will be much kinder for the 2011 race.

Organisers are searching for better weather conditions – if not dryer, at least warmer! – with this new date as well as for longer daylight hours, thus making the event more enjoyable for all.

The 2011 Capital Punishment’s course will stay very similar to the one in 2010, linking the best single track in Canberra into one continuous 100km point to point ride, including Kowen Forest, Majura Pines, Black Mountain and World Class Stromlo Forest Park. A 50km option is also available for those participants looking for a more leisurely ride while still experiencing some of the tracks that have made Canberra the Mecca of mountain biking in Australia.

Entries are limited and will open online on December 8, 2010 at 8:00am EST. The 2,000 places are expected to fill in within hours. The inaugural 2010 event’s 2,000 spots were all snatched on the first day, after crashing the server a couple of times, so eager were the would?be participants to register!

Event information and entries are available on:

Deus Swap Meet. Sydney. Saturday.

Tuesday, November 9th, 2010

If you find yourself in Sydney this weekend, consider heading along to the swap meet being held at Deus Ex Machina in Camperdown.  Get in early if you’re after some bits and pieces for your treasured steed, or get in later to join in some of the other festivities planned during the day.  If the last event is anything to go by, it’s also worth taking some time to look at some of the bikes chained up outside the venue; it’s like a giant, fixie museum, only better!

Wine, Women and Wheels (Out West!)

Thursday, November 4th, 2010

Skills clinics are going nuts at the moment, and we’ve just got word of another approach to hosting them.  Last weekend Chocolate Foot (the event team behind the NSW Singletrack Mind Enduro Series) teamed up with the Central West Off Road Bicycle Club (CWORBC) in Orange to host the inaugural Wine, Women and Wheels skills clinic.

In addition to upping confidence and building better bike handling skills, the social element of the session also helped to kick-start some friendships between likeminded cyclists from the Orange area. We look forward to seeing these ladies out on the trails again soon and hearing how their riding community continues to grow due to events like this one!

For a full report and more information on future clinics check out www.chocolatefoot.com.au
Thank you to Chocolate Foot for the images.
